Ponggal vs Japanese Cultural Festival

Hey peeps! Surprised that i actually blogged? Dont worry, im not going to rant anything about my studies this time.. Im just gonna blog about how eventful my night was yesterday! Believe it or not? I pretty enjoyed it.. :)

Early in the morning, we had to wake up very early to go to the 'Marching Ground' where the Ponggal Festival held.. wait, do you guys know about Ponggal Festival? Well.. according to them, its about some harvesting festival where Tamils celebrated it by cooking the rice with clay pots? lol im not kinda sure about it..
So here's what i found from wikipedia - Thai Ponggal (Tamil: தைப்பொங்கல்) is a harvest festival celebrated by Tamils in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Indian Union Territory of Puducherry and in Sri Lanka. Pongal coincides with the festival Makara Sankranthi celebrated throughout India. Pongal in Tamil means "boiling over" or "spill over". The boiling over of milk in the clay pot symbolizes material abundance for the household. Thai Pongal, celebrated at harvest time, is traditionally intended to thank the Sun God and farmstead livestock that helped create the material abundance.

Basically, my university wanted to create a record in the Malaysian Book of Records by having 1500 people cooking rice on 1500 clay pots! and im one of them! :p

they prepared all the stuff needed.

and this is mine!
bricks stacked up in 3 directions so that we could put our pot on top of it, woods to be lighted up, a clay pot, and a piece of sugar cane as a spatula..

this is me! still feeling sleepy..
AND ITS SCORCHING HOT! just imagine we have to squat/sit there with our pot cooking for 3hours!! -.-

shih yin and ying ying fooling around.. lol!

huishin and i!
we were actually trying to pretend knocking on each others head.. but it didn't looked like it.. :/

this is huishin's pot.. lol
i got trouble lighting up the fire and i gave up ==

see! she's working hard on it!
as for me, i cant stand the smokes everywhere and it hurts my eye ALOT.

its like 'cheng beng' u know?

this is how the rice+milk looks like when its partly cooked..

ying ying dare to tried on it.. i think its not hygienic so lets skip that part.. =S

We couldn't wait till our rice to be fully-cooked as its getting hotter and most people already cabut.. and so we did too.. Its so hot that we got ourselves sun-burnt and oh gawd im having dual skin tone right now.. :'(

Later in the evening, we have this Japanese Cultural Festival organised by the Japanese Cultural Club.. So we thought it would be fun to join along.. Well, its not bad just that i personally thinks that its not as exciting as i thought its going to be..
